How To Thrift Like A PRO: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW TO GET STARTED THRIFTING!
I’ve been wanting to write a thrift shop guide for a while so here it goes! Anyone who knows me knows I used to hate thrifting. I hated the idea of wearing reused items, like ew gross! Thrifting isn’t something we all like to do but it can benefit you and your budget in multiple ways! There are a lot of great finds you might run into while thrifting. Not only is thrifting great for the environment and your wallet, but it’s the best way to have an awesome wardrobe full of unique pieces that no one else will probably have. I’m going to share some of my best tips and a general guide for thrift shopping. So whether you’re a master thrifter or a beginner, there will be something in this for you.
TIP 1: Have a list!
It’s very important to have a list! I’m sure some of us do this when it comes to certain things. Having a list of the items you’re looking for will benefit you when it comes to spending. You need to have the time to reevaluate your closet and mark down the things you NEED that are costly in basic stores. Having a list will also help with time. It’s very important because it will prevent you from buying unnecessary things.
TIP 2: Chose days that you’re free to allow you to take your time!
Your time MATTERS! You will not find the treasure if you do not take your time. Normally when I go thrifting I chose days that I know will allow me to search without rushing. Dedicate a day or an hour to thrift. With your list take the time to look through racks and the entire store. Doing this will allow you to know the store and find hidden items some customers put away for others not to find.
TIP 3: Make an inspirational board!
It’s important to look for inspiration whether it’s from your favorite influencer, blogger, or actress/actor. I recommend Pinterest as a place for inspiration because it’s everything in one app. You don’t have to have such a name, you can search based on what you’re looking for whether it is professional wear, casual, etc etc. Making an inspirational board will benefit you by knowing what to buy and how to style your items.
TIP 4: Pay attention to your location!
Location matters! I highly recommend you shop based on the location. The better the location the better chance you have finding great quality and most likely brands. Shopping at a low-income location will prevent you from finding great quality items. Most suburban areas have better quality and you have a higher chance of finding brand new items.
TIP 5: Have an open mind!
Just because something looks big doesn’t mean it won’t look fabulous on you! Having an open mind will help you find some great gems! I highly recommend not to shop according to sizes there are some items, that run small and there are some that look big but fit just right! So be open-minded and don’t look at the sizing.
TIP 6: Pay Attention To Quality and Not Quantity
Don’t be cheap! I know Thrifting is cheap but if the price is .99 cent but the quality sucks and you find a great piece that costs $4.29 please don’t buy something because of the cheaper price. Add value to your thrifting experience because these are pieces that you want to last you for a while. So, think about the quality and not quantity. Touch everything! feel the material before buying!
I hope you love these thrifting tips as much as I do! Below I have linked my thrift try on haul if you’re interested! Have a blessed day!
